I know, this is a "cheat" post, but I can't resist!

Are you still looking for last minute gifts? I know I am--after I wrote that quirky gift guide for TGIF, many of the stores sold out of the items I profiled! Who knew?

Nice to see Alan Wong at the book launch!

So here I am at the end of the Christmas season, out of time and ready to punt. Along comes longtime writer Arnold Hiura, who launched his new book, Kau Kau: Cuisine & Culture in the Hawaiian Islands last night. It's a neat coffee table book for anyone who is into Hawaii food, old-time Hawaii culture, and wants some recipes. Basically, flipping through it, you will be taken back to the origins of the mixed plate and learn about favorite local comfort foods. I haven't studied the recipes yet, but I think I'll want to try them!

The only drawback is, at the end of the night, I asked where we can buy the book, and Arnold didn't know. We know you can buy it at Watermark Publishing's website, but we're not sure what stores will be carrying it. I hope you get it shipped in time!

p.s. Was great to see Lois Shimabukuro of Ka Lei Eggs at the launch!
