You gonna blog about that? ZenShu
By Melissa
This is a little out of my area, but Metromix.com sent me to check out ZenShu, the new restaurant that occupies the old Harpo's building on Kapahulu. Lucky me!
I'm just going to share a few photos with you here, but if you want to see the full gallery, go to my review on the site.
Real quick: Parking can be a challenge, but there is a clinic across the street that has free parking after 6 p.m. Outside of that, you need to hunt for street parking. I'm lucky that my friends the Sakudas live in the area so next time I will park in their driveway. Three young guys own it and created a combination sake bar, sushi bar, sports bar, and fusion izakaya restaurant.

I invited Alex & Jennifer to this venture since we were all headed to the Metromix Launch Party at Pearl afterward.

It's hard to say what I would prefer to do. Sitting at a table was much more intimate, but whenever we looked over at the sushi bar, Chef Ryuji was engaging the customers with animated talk and wild hand gestures. I think next time I'll sit at the sushi bar. In the meantime, here are a couple of things we ate:

Ahi Bibap is a good universal choice. Very spicy, though.

Here's the uni chawanmushi and the ahi yukke. Both very exotic. The menu is either exotic fusion like this, or super simple like Mrs. Tsuda's chicken wings. Sounds odd, and yet it works. I'd totally eat there again and the prices aren't that bad.

I saw this place the other week. The food looks good but looks like it could get expensive if you are a big eater like me...

Sake was great... food was really good... Prices were very good for the offerings... atmosphere (as noted) is conducive to hanging out, watching the game on big screens with buds or taking a date, which is what I plan on doing next time.
Oh, and this was the first time I ate a natto dish and actually liked it.

Holy Shmokes, I no think I would eat either one...Melissa Zimmern.
One of the guys is from Yohei's sister restaurant, Maguro-ya. Fish and sushi must be good.
