Hokulani Bake Shop

May 13th, 2008 by Melissa

One of my favorite indulgences is Red Velvet Cake, but the last thing I want to do is buy a whole cake! Fortunately, Hokulani Bake Shop brings it down to a single serving so I don’t go overboard.

I showed up (late) to the store, and by that time they were completely out of Red Velvet. Why should I be surprised? It’s their best seller! Out of distress, I did what comes naturally: I bought a dozen assorted cupcakes instead.

Hokulani

Oh, you thought these were all for me, didn’t you??  Thought I fell off the workout wagon? No, I took these to a potluck last night. I heard a lot about the Lilikoi cupcake, which lived up to the hype–the cake is tangy, the frosting is rich but not too sweet. Everyone inhaled their cupcakes with no complaints, so I’m guessing they were a hit.

stop!!! i read ur blogs, drool, go eat the latest topic. u tell me about the latest deals on clothes, i go and buy. the inevitable result: i am having to buy BIGGER CLOTHES. enough!

  3. yuenhernandez:

I’ll take a dozen the next time you stop by my office. I like the red velvet ones, though.

  4. Cindy:

Oh, yum! You’re so mean to post that photo! They look absolutely delicious!

  5. Rodney:

Cool picture. The cupcakes look delish. But what I want to know is, how do you get your photo to move like that? (typical geek, looking at the action instead of the content)

  6. TwoFish:

Rodney - I wondered the same thing too about how she got the image to move, or change pics seamlessly. Must be because she’s the owner of the blog, she has access to other functons we don’t have just by leaving comments.

Chang - why not make your own cupcakes, and freeze them? C’mon, the Chinese in you must want to save a buck or two.

  7. Melissa:

Rodney, are you really a geek? Then you must BOW TO ME, because I am the QUEEN of Photoshop!! It’s all Photoshop, all the time, baby.

Twofish–because I am Chinese, my freezer is already full. Plus, no sense keep cupcakes in arms’ reach! This is something I need to go out of my way for and pay for as penance!

  8. Rodney:

I kowtow to the QUEEN of Photoshop for I am just the lowly grasshopper. “shir, shir — would you care for some tea and dumplings, master?”

  9. 1dble:

They look super yummy, but from $2.00 for ONE cupcake? Is there gold in the frosting? I’ll stick with baking at home. Having my son help out makes it worth more than that stuff…

  10. Melissa:

    Tea, dumplings, chicken feet….mmmmmmmmm

  11. TwoFish:

oooh, chicken feet dimsum. Tripe, pai guat, shao lon bau . . .yum!

OK, so how about I bake red velvet for you and Sto, and you can pay me $2/each? : )

  12. snow:

Yum… !! I’ve been thinking about red velvet cupcakes after seeing the people next to us at Mother’s Day dinner passing them around their table (none for us - darn!)! The cupcake place in Aina Haina is a little too far (probably a good thing!) but Hokulani is right in town… I may have to drag myself there this weekend! I’ll be thinking of you when I have to workout extra… heh!

these are so delicious, and you forgot to mention they use all natural (no corn syrup) and some local ingredients. so, even more good reasons to enjoy them and support local businesses!
